The Aero Club of Metropolitan Atlanta was founded in 1984 by Lockheed Aircraft Company executives and local business people to serve the aviation community.

STEVE CHAMPNESS, Trade a Plane

Steve has been flying since taking lessons in a Cessna 150 at age thirteen. Later he flew in the US Navy as a Naval Aircrewman and gained over 2000 flight hours in P-3 Orion Aircraft tracking Russian Submarines and ships. After attending DeKalb College in Atlanta and Studying Aviation management he has worked for "the Robb Report Magazine," then for "Career Pilot Magazine" and now he has been working for Trade-A-Plane for the last 19 years as National Advertising Sales Executive. Additionally Steve Represents the Helicopter Association International for HAI advertising and HELI-EXPO sales. He maintains offices at Peachtree-DeKalb Airport just 11 miles north of downtown Atlanta. With a pilot's license and a great knowledge of everything with wings Steve enjoys meeting the leaders in Aviation from all parts of the world and leading the Atlanta Aero Club to National Prominence. Steve is engaged to Nancy Petroline, enjoys tennis and swimming at the beach and resides in Alpharetta, GA.

ELAINE WEATHERBY, Standard Aero

Elaine's aviation career now spans three decades. Private pilot training in 1986 launched her into Commercial Airline Sales, working as a Manufacturer's Rep firm in Southern California. In 1992, Elaine formed her own Rep firm which pivoted her attention to Corporate Aviation working from her home in Dana Point, CA. Accepting a position with Midcoast Aviation in 1998 relocated the Weatherby family to Atlanta,GA. Elaine is now working for Standard Aero as the Regional Sales manager selling Airframe maintenance, Avionics, Interior and Engine Maintenance. Living in Alpharetta with her husband Jesse, and three children, she hopes to find the time to get back in the cockpit someday in the near future.

JOHN ENTICKNAP, Aviation Business Strategies Group

John is seasoned veteran of the aviation services industry with more than 35 years of experience managing and directing, FBO's, airline ground handling and aircraft fueling company initiatives. His experience includes mergers and acquisitions, marketing development & strategies, aviation consulting, aircraft maintenance, aircraft flight operations, sales and marketing. He is the former President & CEO of Mercury Air Centers, Inc. He recently formed Aviation Business Strategies Group LLC with one goal in mind: to help aviation service companies, FBO's in particular, become more profitable. In addition he is Vice President Business Development for Mercury Air Group, Inc. Los Angeles CA. One of his most recent projects is the opening of a new FBO in Kuwait; owned by Royal Aviation Kuwait, operated by Mercury Air Group Inc. John is also an active ATP and CFII rated aviator.

SARAH ROSSETTI, Deputy Director, BENS

Sarah Rossetti joined Business Executives for National Security (BENS) in August 2011 as Deputy Director of the Southeast Region. BENS is a group that is dedicated to bringing the best business practices of the private sector to our leaders in Washington, DC.Sarah is responsible for developing and distributing BENS Southeast membership communication materials, for helping with member engagement, recruiting and retention, and for managing the BENS Southeast office. She organizes BENS Southeast member events, including speakers and trips, and assists in executing BENS programs. Sarah is a graduate of Auburn University in Hotel and Restaurant Management. Before joining BENS Sarah was a flight attendant with Delta Air Lines. Passions include travel, the outdoors, reading, and spending time with her puppy, Sunny! Sarah comes to the Atlanta Aero Club to bring top level membership services to its members. Using her experience with BENS as the Deputy Director she knows how to help the Atlanta Aero Club grow.


AMY HUDNALL, Georgia Center of Innovation for Aerospace

Amy Kohler Hudnall is the Director of the Georgia Center of Innovation for Aerospace and is responsible for a wide-ranging program to accelerate Georgia aerospace companies’ growth by helping them commercialize new products, services and business models, connecting them with university research and industry expertise as well as other Georgia resources for the aerospace industry.

Kit has a wealth of aviation experience, gained as an airline pilot, entrepreneur and consultant. While serving as an airline pilot with United, he founded his own consulting firm, providing specialized services including airline pilot career counseling, pilot career earnings, interview preparation, contract negotiations, and pilot salaries and benefits. Through Future Aviation Professionals Association and AIR, Inc, he has helped hundreds of thousands of pilot members. Through KitDarby.com, he provides industry forecasting, feasibility studies, expert witness testimony, earnings models and consulting.

Amanda thrives on delivering innovative, thoughtful, financially-feasible planning concepts for airport development programs. She’s worked successfully and exclusively within the airport development industry for more than 12 years, and established MaesAwyr, which is Welsh for airport, in 2015 to provide comprehensive aviation planning expertise to communities, businesses, and consultants for a variety of development projects. Recent experience includes FBO facility planning, corporate flight department hangar development project management, quality assurance, capital projects programming, and consulting to UAS firms in airspace and airport operations. Amanda is a private pilot with an instrument rating.

Jamail is a pilot and aviation entrepreneur, and his primary company, Ascension Air Management is the number one fractional Cirrus SR22T and Eclipse 550 ownership program in the Atlanta and Fort Lauderdale Area. Because of his passion for flying, ability to connect with youth and his role with Careers in Aviation, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University University recruited Jamail to bring attention to the aviation industry. Together, they founded the Dream Launch Tour to educate students about career opportunities in the aviation industry. Jamail was named the #1 Entrepreneur under the age of 30 by Inc. Magazine, received a Certificate of Special Recognition from the United States Congress, was named one of the "History Makers in the Making" by MSNBC's The Grio, was the Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year by Black Enterprise Magazine, and was selected to become a member of the Young Global Leaders for the World Economic Forum in 2011. In 2014, he was named to Forbes 30 Under 30 List and represented the energy and industry category for Ascension Air.

Kyle was a native Atlantan who earned his pilot license on his 16th birthday. After Georgia Tech he was with Eastern Airlines for eleven years. Kyle then founded Southern Mortgage Reporting in 1989 and grew the company until its sale in 2003. He was the Managing Partner of the Pilot's Country Club and an active Angel Flight pilot, providing medical flights to cancer patients, and a life-long aviation advocate. We miss you, Kyle!

Georgia Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle visits with Mr. Pat Epps, President of Epps Aviation, at the 4th Annual Georgia Aerospace Legislative Breakfast, where industry representatives met with legislators February 4 at The Georgia Capitol. Kyle McMahan

Our friend and Atlanta Aero Club Board Member, Kyle McMahan, recently lost his battle with cancer. Kyle may have "Gone West," but he won't be forgotten by any that knew him or of him. In this photo, Kyle (on left) is with former Georgia Governor, Sonny Perdue.
